Godson, a well-known associate and confidant of Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, has finally opened up about the emotional reason behind the cancellation of the singer’s upcoming concerts in the United States, providing clarity amid circulating rumors and speculations.
Earlier this week, news broke that several of Wizkid’s highly anticipated tour dates in the U.S. had been abruptly canceled. These include shows scheduled to take place at some of the biggest arenas such as the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on June 5, 2025, Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 7, 2025, and the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on June 19, 2025.
The cancellations sparked widespread concern among fans, followers, and the general public. While some unverified reports initially claimed the cancellations were due to poor ticket sales, others speculated it could be tied to more personal matters that have not been publicly disclosed by Wizkid or his team.
The truth, as revealed by Godson during a candid Q&A session with fans on Snapchat, appears to be deeply emotional. Responding to a fan who asked, “Please why did WizKid cancelled his shows? Shed more light,” Godson gave a heartfelt explanation that shed light on the superstar’s current mental and emotional state.According to Godson, the reason Wizkid has withdrawn from his scheduled performances is due to his ongoing grief following the tragic loss of his beloved mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun. He stated that the singer is still processing the pain of her death and is struggling with little to no emotional support from those around him.
In his own words, Godson replied: “Add him to prayers personally, I think that nigga still grieving and nobody is helping him achieve this sad.”
It should be recalled that Wizkid lost his mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, on August 18, 2023, in London. Her passing left a significant void in the life of the singer, who was known to share a very close bond with her.
During her emotional wake-keeping ceremony, Wizkid gave a touching tribute, describing the pain of losing his mother as the deepest sorrow he had ever experienced. He struggled to hold back tears as he reflected on her unconditional love and the role she played in his life and career.
Following her passing, a befitting and highly emotional burial ceremony was organized. The event was attended by influential figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry, respected dignitaries, and former housemates from the Big Brother Naija reality TV show. Despite the huge turnout, it was evident that the singer was still heavily grieving.
